The station has existed on and off for about 15 years. Initially, the radio station was named “Radio Free Emily 88.3fm”. During its “Radio Free Emily” years, it was essentially a pirate radio station, and it actually became pretty successful and due to its popularity. Later, it got shut down because it was heading towards a more legit incarnation of that radio. In 2010, the name was changed to “Rat Island Transmissions 88.3fm”. Currently, the new name of station is “radio emily”. At this time, we are in the stages of applying for a proper license from the CRTC and until granted, will no longer be broadcasting on the AM dial. We have recently been accepted into the National Campus Radio Association, and are working on funding and moving toward getting back on the AM airspace. So, for now, pop on some headphones and listen to the live stream. We’re working hard on getting ourselves out there in the community; in the meantime you can enjoy us live anywhere online.
Broadcasting from Emily Carr University of Art + Design on Granville Island, radio emily is Vancouver’s exclusive destination for new music, art + design.
